fa سلامت روان دانشجویان پسر ورزشکار و غیرورزشکار دانشگاه پیام نور شهر بیرجند (سال 90-1389) General پژوهشي Research Article <div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;"><strong>Background and Aim: </strong>Mental health is considered as a determinant of the total health of people. In light of the high prevalence of impaired mental health in students and its importance the present study was performed to compare the general health in athlete and non-athlete students in Birjand Payam-e-Noor University in 2010-2011.<br> <strong>Materials and Methods: </strong>In this case-control study, 75 athlete students from Birjand Payam-e-Noor University with a record of 2 years of continuous exercise were selected, as the case group, and the same number of non-athlete students from the same university were taken as controls. The two groups were selected through census, and both were matched for age. Demographic form and GHQ-28 questionnaire were completed by both groups. The obtained data was analyzed by means of SPSS software (version 11) using statistical tests, descriptive statistics, non-parametric Mann-witney,and Fisher exact test at the significant level P<0.05.<br> <strong>Results:</strong> Mean score of mental health was significantly higher in athletic students (P=0.007).
