<div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;"><strong>Background and Aim:</strong>In recent years, clinical mentorship hasturned into a popular experiencefor nursing studentsin their education.This research studied the effect of performing mentorship program on selfconfidence of trainee nursing students in Imam Reza Hospital of Birjand in 2011.<br>
<strong>Materials and Methods:</strong> Thisquasi-experimental study was done on 60 nursing students of the 4 th semester (trainees of orthopedicsward) from the Islamic Azad University of Birjand who were randomly divided into two groups (30 students in the experimental group and 30 in the control group). In the experimental group,there was a student of the 8 th semester as the mentor for each 3 students,and in the other group, there was only an instructor available without any mentor. Self-confidence of students of the 4 th semester was evaluated before and after their training withMontaltoself-confidence questionnaireon the basis of Likert scale.The data was analyzed using Spss 16, independent t test, paired t, and chi-square.<br>
<strong>Results:</strong> Although students' self-confidence score means were high in both groups after the program, the average of self-confidence score in the experimental groupwas higher than that of the control group.The difference between the mean scores of the two groups was significant according to independent t test (p<0/001).<br>
<strong>Conclusion:</strong> Results of the study indicate that the mentorship program provides a chance for nursing students to enhance their self-confidence. So it is suggested that clinical curriculum designers use this inexpensive method as a complementary educational method, if not an independent method.</span></span></div>
